Adults & Family Counselling
Counselling is helpful for anxiety, low mood, low self-esteem and relationship problems: it gives you the time and space to understand what is going on for you. I work with adults to help them manage their emotions, understand how their mind works and make changes. This is usually working one to one but I also offer family counselling to help build stronger family relationships.
Family can be a source of love, support and encouragement but sometimes relationships within families are put under strain and family members feel isolated or overlooked.
Family counselling can have many positive outcomes for individuals and their families. This list is not exhaustive - instead it is compiled from my own client's experiences. It can :
- Help the family to understand and deal with powerful emotions and painful situations
- Increase communication between members of the family
- Make every child, teenager and adult feel valued, heard and significant
- Provide a balanced understanding of each family member's own self-worth
- Provide assertive strategies to deal with abusive relationships
- Allow family members insight into the individual effects of anxiety, depression, bullying or addiction
Counselling is a different experience for everyone, and what happens in each family session will depend very much on what each person hopes to get out of it and on the unique needs of the family."We repeat what we don't repair" - Christine Langley-Obaugh
My role is to work collectively with families to help them build stronger relationships between every child, adolescent and adult in the family and enable them to start working together.
